Colleen A. Sheehan

Colleen A. Sheehan is a professor in the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership at Arizona State University and an academic council member of the Jack Miller Center. Her work focuses on American political thought, especially James Madison and the founding era. She previously taught for more than three decades at Villanova University before joining Arizona State University. She has also served in public office in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and on the Pennsylvania State Board of Education. She is the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, including the Earhart Fellowship, Bradley Fellowship, National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship, fellowships from Princeton University’s James Madison Program, the Claremont Institute’s Henry Salvatori Prize, and Villanova University’s Martin Manley Teacher of the Year Award. Her published works include James Madison and the Spirit of Republican Self-Government and The Mind of James Madison: The Legacy of Classical Republicanism, along with edited volumes such as Friends of the Constitution and The Cambridge Companion to The Federalist. She has published in leading journals including The American Political Science Review, The William and Mary Quarterly, and The Review of Politics, as well as in the Wall Street Journal. She holds degrees from Arizona State University and the University of Toronto.
